Optimizing the carbon intensity of your production

Localized Energy Impact

The carbon footprint of production is highly dependent on the local energy mix. A factory in a region with high coal usage will have a much larger footprint than one in a region with abundant hydropower, even if the production processes are identical.

Renewable Energy

You can specify if your production facility uses on-site renewable energy (like solar panels or wind turbines) or if it purchases Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to offset its grid consumption. This can dramatically lower the reported carbon intensity of the production phase.

Examples of Input

  • Renewable Usage: "100% Solar Power (on-site) for all manufacturing"
  • RECs/Offsets: "Purchase of 5,000 kWh equivalent in Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)"
  • Specific Consumption: "2.5 kWh per unit produced, using local grid mix"
